After your Treatment
Achieving the desired outcomes from neuromodulators are two fold; the dose and location of the injections but also successful aftercare once you leave your appointment. To optimize your results, please first follow the Preparation Guild and the following recommendations after your treatment:
After care is important and can help ensure the best possible results and minimize complications. For that reason, here are things to keep in mind:
- DO NOT exercise, sauna, hot tub or otherwise increase heat and circulation to your face. You can plan these activities for either before your appointment or the next day.
- It is important that you do not rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours after your treatment. Gently washing your face at the end of the day is ok.
- Use the target muscles normally after your appointment, no need to perform exaggerated expressions since this is not supported by science and may cause product migration.
- No tight fitting hats on the day of your treatment, if you received forehead injections.
- Do not lie down on the affected area for 4 hours post treatment.
- You may experience a headache and flu-like symptoms for approximately 24–48 hours post. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be taken for relief. This is most common if this is your very first treatment, ever.
- The redness and marks on the treated areas will likely disappear within a few hours after treatment.
- There is a slight risk of bruising that may last up to one week. This is always temporary and can easily be covered with makeup. If this occurred, ice the area repeatedly for 15 mins in the hours that follow your treatment and avoid alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen. I have disposable ice packs on hand if this is a concern.
- Please report any complications or contact me with any questions – happy to help!
Ignoring aftercare instructions puts you at risk of an unintended outcome. Product migration can result in complications like a dropped eyebrow, eyelid, or uneven smile. There is no reversal agent for neurotoxin and the desired or undesired effects may last for weeks or months.
Neuromodulators can start to take effect 3-5 days post treatment, with the full effect after 2 weeks. If you feel that you would desire more relaxation of the muscles treated, we will address this at your two week follow up appointment.
Complimentary touch-ups are only offered:
- with cosmetic indications, not therapeutic
- to the muscle groups initially treated, and
- only within 28 days of your initial treatment to ensure proper facial balance.
The effects will typically last about 3 months with the peak action occurring in the first few weeks. Then there is a slow, gradual return to baseline animation. With consistent use, it is possible that the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles become weaker. This is often a desirable effect as it may mean a lower dosage is needed for a similar result. It is ideal to wait until near-full movement has returned to all areas of the face before booking another appointment. This way we achieve a more balanced and complete result compared to frequent “top-ups”.
Result duration is dependent on dose and your unique body. Higher dose = more immobility and longer duration. However, individual biochemistry can also greatly effect the results and duration. For this reason, results cannot be guaranteed.
Getting Longer Lasting Results
USE SPF! Consistent SPF use will protect your investment AND it is the easiest, cheapest way to prevent the signs of aging!
Additionally, there is some early research suggesting that supplementation with oral zinc for one week prior to your treatment (with food) could help increase the effectiveness AND duration of the results!! You can consider taking an oral dose of 50mg of zinc daily for 5-7 days prior to your treatment. This hot tip is especially relevant to anyone that knows their results typically don’t last long, are mainly vegetarian or vegan. Or if you are approaching an age where you might start getting discounts at a museum, for example, since zinc muscle-stores deplete as we age 😉 If you are unsure if supplementation is right for you, then speak to your doctor.

FAQ ABOUT MY BOTOX TREATMENTS & SERVICES
What areas can Botox treat at Chelsea Hughes Aesthetics?
Chelsea offers Botox treatments for a wide range of both cosmetic and therapeutic needs. These include wrinkle reduction (nose, lips, chin, DAOs downturned mouth, and jawline), jaw tension and TMJ relief, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the underarms and feet, and post-migraine cosmetic correction. Each treatment is fully customized to your anatomy, goals, and comfort.
Is Botox safe, and who performs the injections?
Yes, Botox is a safe and well-studied treatment when administered by a qualified professional. Botox injections have been used and studied for decades. All injections at Chelsea Hughes Aesthetics are performed by Chelsea herself—a Registered Nurse with over 17 years of clinical experience, advanced aesthetic certifications, and a background in ICU and oncology nursing. She also works closely with a Nurse Practitioner Medical Director for added clinical oversight.
How long does Botox last and when will I see results?
Botox typically begins working within 3–5 days, with full results visible in about 10–14 days. Most clients enjoy smoother, refreshed skin for 3 to 4 months. For therapeutic treatments like TMJ or hyperhidrosis, results can last even longer—sometimes up to 6–12 months. Chelsea will discuss your goals and create a customized plan during your free consultation. Individual results may vary.
How much does Botox cost, and how is it priced?
Botox is priced per unit, with cosmetic wrinkle treatments at $7.50/unit and hyperhidrosis treatments at a discounted $7.00/unit. Chelsea also offers a “BYOB” (bring your own prescription Botox from your pharmacy) option for therapeutic hyperhidrosis care. Consultations are required and always free. Touch-ups are also free when needed.
